We talk to Nick Rudd, Director at Spectral Windows, about how Deceuninck Aluminium’s flexible offer is helping the company remain resilient in 2025.
Spectral Windows was launched in 2020 during COVID by Jason Wilder and fellow directors Nick Rudd, Philip Redfern and C. Scott McQueen, following demand from long-standing customers who were looking for a reliable local supplier with a premium product range.
With an initial focus on PVC-U, the team invested in two Deceuninck lines, one welded and one fully mechanical, and set up shop at a new manufacturing facility in Walsall. But the plan was always to broaden the offer, and aluminium was the next logical step.
“Once we had the PVC side up and running, we quickly moved to aluminium,” Nick said. “We’d seen the Decalu88 Bi-folding Door and knew it was the right fit for us. It’s been a big success with our installer network.”
“Because it’s pre-gasketed, you’re saving hours on site, you’re not feeding in gaskets by hand, and there’s no shrinkage over time. It’s a well-thought-out system.”
Uniform appearance
Deceuninck Aluminium’s modular approach means systems share components, helping installers maintain a consistent look across a whole project, even when fitting different product types.
And for fabricators, the benefits are clear: fewer parts to manage, simpler stockholding, and a more efficient operation overall.
“There are far fewer bits to deal with compared to other aluminium systems,” Nick said. “From a stockholding point of view, it makes a big difference.”
“Then there’s the colour range. Most of the colours are available at the same price, so you’re not constantly having to charge more or wait longer for non-standard options. And we’ve got access to 30 foil finishes from stock, which is huge for us.”
Spectral has set its sights on becoming a leading fabricator for colour, and Deceuninck’s offer helps the business deliver on that goal. Dual-colour options are especially popular with homeowners, and the aligned colour pathways across PVC-U and aluminium make matching products simple.
“If an installer’s doing a job with a slider, a French door and windows, they can get the same colour on everything, all on the same lead time,” Nick said. “That’s a big selling point.”
Thermal performance is another growing priority for both installers and homeowners, and here, too, Deceuninck Aluminium ticks the right boxes.
“The Decalu88 is an 88mm system, so the thermal break is wider than a lot of alternatives,” Nick said. “It takes up to a 60mm triple glazed unit, so you can achieve low U-values without compromising on design.”
Bigger panes
With a growing focus on clean design and large glazed areas, Spectral is seeing more projects that call for wider and taller door leaves, and again, the Decalu88 Bi-folding Door is proving a good match.
“A 3.6m-wide opening is a common size, and with most systems, you’re looking at four panes to make that work,” Nick said. “But with the Decalu88 Bi-fold, you can do it with three. That’s cheaper, better-looking, and easier for the installer and homeowner.”
“You’re not stuck with a master door on one side and the rest stacking the other way, everything moves in the same direction, and the sightlines are slimmer too.”
The robust roller system handles the weight of triple-glazed units with ease, which means installers can offer energy performance without concerns about operational issues down the line.
“We’ve had no problems with heavy units dropping or putting strain on the door,” Nick said. “It just works.”
Proven performance
The Decalu163 Lift-and-Slide Door has become a key part of Spectral’s aluminium offering, delivering the scale, performance and efficiency that both installers and homeowners increasingly expect.
“Homeowners want bold, energy-efficient statement pieces, and installers want to fit and forget while maximising earning potential,” Nick says. “The Decalu163 fits that brief.”
Designed to perform, the system achieves U-values as low as 1.3W/m²K with double glazing, meeting Part L requirements for home improvement without the added weight and cost of triple glazing. For newbuild, it goes even further, hitting U-values of 0.8W/m²K to meet the Future Homes Standard in its current form, thanks to advanced pre-inserted thermal inserts.
Each sash supports up to 400kg, with individual panel sizes up to 3,900mm x 2,500mm. On a triple track, the system spans up to 4,000mm by 10,500mm, giving designers and homeowners real freedom in shaping large, uninterrupted openings.
“It gives our customers a product that delivers on all fronts: thermal performance, smooth operation, and design flexibility,” Nick says. “It’s a reliable, high-quality solution that’s become a staple for us.”
“Deceuninck Aluminium gives us the flexibility to grow with confidence. The systems are well thought out, easy to fabricate, and they help us offer something that genuinely makes life easier for installers,” Nick concludes.
“We’re not chasing trends, we’re building a range that delivers long-term value, and with the right products and support, we’re in a strong position for what’s ahead.”
